Charles Chauderlot

Born in Madrid (Spain) in 1952 from a French-Spanish Family with several generations of renowned sculptors and painters, Charles Chauderlot began to study paintings in Bordeaux (France) at the age of 11.

In 1990, he made the decision to dedicate himself exclusively to his art, thus becoming a full time artist.

From 1987 to 1996 - France

Ch. Chauderlot has participated to more than 50 national and international shows as well as 10 solo exhibitions.

During that time, he has received many prizes and rewards :

12 firts prizes, the golden medal in the 38th International Art fair of Beziers, a spécial nomination in the 81th « Salon d´Hiver » in Paris, etc ... and he enter in the art collection of Poissy museum and four french municipalities.

From 1996 - China-

In 1996 he moved to China. Beijing, where Ch. Chauderlot is residing, has a very special place in his heart. The rich cultural heritage of Beijing fascinates him. Yet the swift and often brutal destruction of its historical past has prompted the artist to restore that past through his artwork. Day after day, working against time, Ch. Chauderlot, unflagging, paints´ in situ ´the old hutongs (streets and dead end alleys of the old Beijing) temples, bridges? often doomed to destruction.

Thus, Ch. Chauderlot´s handsome black and white drawings made with ink and Chinese brush combine an aesthetic as well as a testimonial value. His years in Asia have influenced his techniques. He has blended harmoniously the principle of Western perspective and the way ´´ Empty Space´´ is apprehended in Chinese painting very rapidly, Ch. Chauderlot has acquired recognition.

Then twelve exhibitions have followed in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Since 1999, National Chinese TV but also the press and radio have made numerous coverage on the artist. The widely read newspaper ´´Beijing Youth Daily´´, the state owned news paper ´´ Zhong Hua Jian Zhu Bao´´ as well as many other magazines specializing in art. The Beijing News Radio Station ´´Xin Wen Tai´´. In November 2000,CCTV made a 15-minute documentary and until now, several more reports have been made by different CCTV channels and recently by Hong Kong TV.

In 2003, a book was published in France to illustrate his career in Beijing ´´Pékin-Ultimes regards sur la vieille cité´´.

Ch. Chauderlot has been received by the Chinese Authorities on ´´First and exceptional invitation´´ to paint freely during a two year period inside the restricted areas of the Forbidden City from October 2002 until November 2004.

In 2004, a second book is published in France. The theme is about his work in the Forbidden City.

During the French May 2005, in Hong Kong, the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, and the Alliance Française have organized with the exclusive sponsoring of the Bank of China the first display of 62 Forbidden Ink paintings in the main lobby of the Bank of China Tower.
