You Grow Up Better with Picture Books

- An event with Chinese children
Children's book reading on April 9, 2008 in a children's bookstore in Guangzhou

On April 9, at 3 - 4.30 pm, a reading for children will be held in the children's bookstore in the Guangzhou Children's Palace, organized by the BIZ Peking of the Frankfurt Book Fair, the Guangzhou Children's Palace and the children's bookstore in the Children's Palace.

Within the framework of the town twinning project "Frankfurt at the Pearl River", public events are planned with Chinese children in connection with a presentation of special features of German children's books, short readings, music and interactions with children. The Lady Mayor, Mrs. Petra Roth, is the guest of honor at the event.

Approximately 40 Chinese children, between 5 and 7 years old, plus their parents and educators are expected. Journalists from press and TV, specialists and colleagues from publishing companies will also be there.

Approximately 42% of the German book licenses that are annually sold to China are children's books! Still, most of the children's books that are translated into Chinese and published are not noticed by Chinese readers.

In order to boost the popularity of German children's books in China, in 1966 the Book Information Center (BIZ) Peking of the Frankfurt Book Fair started a series of activities in different cities and places in China under the motto: "You grow up better with picture books".
